There is no good that comes out of Democrats taking over the House, the Senate and, the White House. While that is not a 100% done deal yet, it looks like it’s a strong possibility. In Georgia, it appears that  Democrat Raphael Warnock has beaten Kelly Loeffler while Jon Ossof is ahead and favored to beat Republican David Perdue in a razor-close race. If that holds up and Joe Biden is affirmed as President, Democrats will hold the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. After taking note of the situation, Democrats have already begun to gleefully call for radical changes.

First of all, just to be clear, if the Democrats control all 3 branches of government, there will be bad legislation pushed through on a party-line vote. It’s just unavoidable. That being said, what they would really like to do is create a “transformative change” in America. By that, I mean they’d like to stack the deck in their favor to such an extent that they would remain permanently in charge. By that, I mean make DC and Puerto Rico a state, stack the Supreme Court with liberals and change the voting laws to give them a bigger advantage. This would allow them to fully embrace tyrannical socialism without having to worry about those pesky Republicans getting in the way.

The first thing they need to do to make that happen is to get rid of the legislative filibuster in the Senate.  Theoretically, it is possible for them to do that if all 50 Democratic Senators agree and it could happen. However, the odds are heavily against it. For one thing, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has pledged, with no wiggle room, that he absolutely, unconditionally will not vote to get rid of the legislative filibuster. Should you put all your faith in Joe Manchin? Absolutely not, but a number of other Democratic Senators have also shown reluctance to commit to that radical move. There are two reasons for that. The first is that they realize that if they make that change and the GOP gets back into power, Republicans can use it as well. The other reason that the smarter ones understand is that the country can’t survive that change long-term. Either it would eventually mean that the Democrats would try to lock the Republicans out of power, the Republicans would pursue that path when they got into power or you would see radical legislative shifts when either party took over the government. The country couldn’t hold together long-term under any of those scenarios.

To pack the courts, make DC a state or make Puerto Rico a state or do some of the other more radical things Democrats want to do, they’d need to get rid of the legislative filibuster as a starting point. The good news is that probably won’t happen.
