This week, Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and Trump impeachment witness Alexander Vindman spoke to Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic and called President Trump a âuseful idiotâ of Russiaâs Vladimir Putin.
Vindman, in his first interview since leaving the military, said that âPresident Trump should be considered to be a useful idiot and a fellow traveler, which makes him an unwitting agent of Putin,â according to American Military News.
AMN continues:
Asked by The Atlantic if Russia has compromising information against Trump, Vindman said âThey may or may not have dirt on him, but they donât have to use it.â
âThey have more effective and less risky ways to employ him,â Vindman said. âHe has aspirations to be the kind of leader that Putin is, and so he admires him. He likes authoritarian strongmen who act with impunity, without checks and balances. So heâll try to please Putin.â
Vindman continued, saying, âIn the Army we call this âfree chicken,â something you donât have to work forâit just comes to you. This is what the Russians have in Trump: free chicken.â
Asked why he wanted to speak out against Trump, Vindman said, âI was drawn into this by the president, who politicized me. I think itâs important for the American people to know that this could happen to any honorable service member, any government official. I think itâs important for me to tell people that I think the president has made this country weaker. Weâre mocked by our adversaries and by our allies, and weâre heading for more disaster.â
Vindman said, âTruth is a victim in this administration, I think itâs Orwellianâthe ultimate goal of this president is to get you to disbelieve what youâve seen and what youâve heard. My goal now is to remind people of this.â
We can see from this that Vindman was a bad actor in the administration, and obviously deserved to be fired from the National Security Council. Now, deservedly so, heâs reduced to parroting MSNBC talking points.
