Hudson, Ohio Mayor Craig Shubert issued an ultimatum to the school board: resign, or face charges.
The board met after many parents complained about the contents of a number of writing prompts in a book called “642 Things to Write About” that was provided to some high school students. Parents were understandably upset with the book, which included prompts such as “write a sex scene you wouldn’t show your mom,” writing about an “x-rated Disney scenario,” and “Describe your favorite part of a man’s body using only verbs,” among many others. One parent said students were told not to take the book home so their parents couldn’t see it.
To cheers from the audience, Shubert told the board “It has come to my attention that your educators are distributing essentially what is child pornography in the classroom. I’ve spoken to a judge this evening. She’s already confirmed that. So I’m going to give you a simple choice: You either choose to resign from this board of education or you will be charged.”
