On Monday, after a 5-4 Supreme Court decision striking down the Louisiana law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges in a hospital within 30 miles of the facility, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany issued a statement calling the decision āunfortunate.ā
The statement read:
“In an unfortunate ruling today, the Supreme Court devalued both the health of mothers and the lives of unborn children by gutting Louisianaās policy that required all abortion procedures be performed by individuals with admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. States have legitimate interests in regulating any medical procedureāincluding abortionsāto protect patient safety.
“Instead of valuing fundamental democratic principles, unelected Justices have intruded on the sovereign prerogatives of State governments by imposing their own policy preference in favor of abortion to override legitimate abortion safety regulations.”
Of course, as usual, āRepublicanā John Roberts was the 5th vote for the Left.
McEnany is right. But, putting aside that the notion of judicial supremacy is anti-constitutional in itself, this travesty of a ārulingā shows that we need to ensure President Trump wins reelection, the latest reason being that he can possibly get the opportunity to fill more Supreme Court seats.
In the meantime, we, as conservatives, must push to end the tragedy that is abortion.
