We all knew this is where this was heading.
LGBT activists and progressive politicians in California are uniting against a bill to make child sex trafficking a felony, and itâs only surprising how unsurprising this news is.
According to HotAir: the description of the bill as follows (quoting directly from it):
Under existing law, if the person solicited was a minor, and the person who solicited the minor knew or reasonably should have known that the person solicited was a minor, the offense is punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for a mandatory minimum of 2 days and not to exceed one year, by a fine not to exceed $10,000 or by both such fine and imprisonment.
This bill would instead, if the person solicited was a minor, regardless of whether or not the person knew or reasonably should have known that the person solicited was a minor, make the offense punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for 2, 3, or 4 years, and a fine not to exceed $25,000.
A number of California Democrats have been working to water down the bill, including Sen. Scott Wiener, who spearheaded the effort to reduce consequences for knowingly transmitting HIV to someone. Another California Senate Democrat, Shannon Grove, didnât want the law to apply to those purchasing 16 and 17 year-olds.
And the activist class is firmly opposed to it too for the exact reason youâd expect.
One activist testifying against the bill claimed that it would affect LGBTQ people more. âWe are particularly concerned that the harsher penalties proposed in this bill will disproportionately affect marginalized communities, especially members of the LGBTQ community, who already suffer from systemic biases in the criminal justice system, especially when it comes to sexually-based offenses.â
She then made an incredible admission, that âstudies have shown that LGBTQ people, particularly gay and trans individuals, are more likely to be charged with sexual offenses than heterosexual people.â Presumably her implication is that theyâre all being falsely accused and charged, of which there is zero evidence for whatsoever.
Only one Democrat in Californiaâs Senate has been outspoken in favor of the bill, and accused her own party of helping keep pedophiles out of jail.
âAs a progressive proud member of this body for the last 12 years, I'm done. I'm done with us protecting people who would buy and abuse our children. I'm done,â she told her colleagues.
âI don't want to send more black and brown men to prison. I don't want more people in prison,â she added to protect her otherwise bonkers progressive credentials, before sanely adding; âBut I don't want people buying girls. I don't want people buying little girls anymore. And I'm tired of saying it's okay.â
