Joe Biden said he’d have his pick for VP in by the first week of August – but that has come and gone.

There was a good deal of speculation that the fix was in for Kamala Harris. As August 1st approached, Politico’s “Running-Mate Rundown” that tracks his potential VP picks prematurely reported that “on August 1st” (it was still July), Biden selected Kamala Harris as his VP. The premature “announcement” did include a quote from Biden about his pick, leading many to speculate that Kamala had already been chosen, and Politico simply clicked “publish” by accident. As August 1st did pass without any announcement, it’s looking like other candidates could have a shot.

Among Biden’s picks for VP include the aforementioned Kamala Harris, Susan Rice, Gretchen Whitmer, Tammy Duckworth, and Karen Bass. And it’s looking like this is the first time in history that the majority of voters believe that a candidate’s VP will become the actual president not long thereafter.

According to Rasmussen Reports:

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it’s likely Biden’s running mate will be president before the end of Biden’s four-year term if he wins this fall, with 39% who say it’s Very Likely. Thirty-five percent (35%) consider it unlikely that Biden’s vice presidential choice will be president before his four-year term ends, but that includes only 14% who think it’s Not At All Likely.

Even 49% of Democrats think it’s likely Biden’s vice president will become president in the next four years, although that compares to 73% of Republicans and 57% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

Biden’s mental fitness has come under question by most who’ve heard the man speak. After being asked if he’s cognitively tested last week, Biden questioned “why the hell” he would take a test, then proceeded to ask the African American host who asked the question if he did cocaine. That came less than a month after Biden boasted that he was regularly cognitively tested (which itself is a statement that begs the question why someone with good mental health is being “constantly” tested).

When this is the candidate, it’s no wonder so few think he’s competent enough to serve out a full term. Meanwhile, I think he’ll serve zero terms in the White House.
