Yesterday, in the alternative universe that is MSNBC, Steve Schmidt of the disgraced Lincoln Project appeared on Joy Reid’s show to make the case that vaccine mandates are as American as apple pie, a delicacy that no one has ever had to be forced to eat.
“And I think it’s important to understand that imposing mandates around vaccines and quarantines, around diseases, this is as American as apple pie and has gone on since the beginning of the country. We live in an age of misinformation and an age of insanity. And enough is enough is enough. Reality is reality, and it’s time to end the B.S.” Schmidt said.
Schmidt’s talking point is likely a reference to George Washington imposing an immunization policy in 1777 to fight smallpox…. for the continental army ten years before the U.S. Constitution was written. Smallpox also has a 30% fatality rate compared to COVID-19’s average of about 0.5% across all ages, so to call this an apples to oranges comparison would still be generous.
That aside, both participants in the above interview are partisan hacks who would be saying the exact opposite opinion if it were Trump made an identical decision as Biden to mandate vaccines. After all, all one needs to do is take a peak at Joy Reid’s twitter feed to see her thoughts on a COVID-19 vaccine when Trump was in office.
I mean, will anyone … anyone at all … ever fully trust the @CDCgov again? And who on God's earth would trust a vaccine approved by the @US_FDA ?? How do we get a vaccine distributed after this broken, Trumpist nonsense has infected everything? Even if Biden wins?

Frankly, the fact that Pfizer was not part of "Operation Warp Speed" and took no Trump government funding makes me feel better about their vaccine. Just speaking for myself, I wouldn't go near anything that Trump or his politicized FDA had anything to do with.
