MSNBC’s Joe Scorborough clarified that he’s not an idiot while spreading a media hoax that had already been debunked by the time he covered it.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump said to a crowd in Dayton, Ohio, that if he didn’t get reelected it would be a “bloodbath” for the auto industry. Then in unison, the mainstream media pretended to not know that the word “bloodbath” is commonly used in economics and campaigning, and reported that Trump was calling for a literal bloodbath in the event of him losing. All of these outlets had themselves used the word “bloodbath” in the past in a way not threatening mass slaughter.

So common is the word “bloodbath” used in the way Trump used it that it’s included in the dictionary definition of the word.

Nonetheless, Scarborough was intent on lying to his audience, whom he misinformed by stating:

I’ve never really heard people discuss macroeconomics, in terms of bloodbaths. But maybe, maybe so. But let’s just say for argument’s sake. But then he says, “and that’s going to be the least of it.” “That’s going to be the least of if.” You think there’s going to be a bloodbath in the auto industry, even if you take that argument at face value, which again, given the tone of the rest of the speech, “bloodbath”? I’m not so sure he’s talking about the niceties of international trade there.

But let’s just take that argument as is. Then he goes on and he says “that’s going to be the least of it” and repeats it. “It’s going to be the least of it.” Obviously, he’s talking about a bloodbath for America. It’s laid out in the terms of it. And these idiots, on Twitter, these idiots, on cable news, these idiots on Sunday shows, “Well, President’s, you know, he was talking only about the auto industry. And this is one more–” It’s just bullshit. Let me say that at 6:15 a.m., it’s just bullshit. He knew what he was doing. We’re not stupid. Americans aren’t stupid. He was talking about a bloodbath.

Watch (and laugh) below:

So absurd was this lie that even the far-left show The Young Turks blasted the media’s reporting on Trump’s comments as “incredibly dishonest” and blasted the mainstream media for their “dishonest framing” that “took him [Trump]” out of context, singling out Joe Scarborough as one doubling down after being corrected.
