New Book Confirms What We All Knew About CNN’s Acosta
Yesterday, we reported on Jim Acosta’s frequent grandstanding, and his rebuking by Dr. Fauci during the White House’s coronavirus briefing. Now, a newly released book by ABC liberal journalist and WHCA president Jonathan Karl named “Front Row at the Trump Show,” blasts Acosta, claiming that he sometimes acts as an “opinion journalist,” and that his antics play “right into the explicit Trump strategy of portraying the press as the opposition party.”
I’ll only note that it’s amusing if they think Acosta is the only journalist who fits that mold.
As Karl told the Washington Free Beacon:
“A sub-sub theme [of the book] is those of us reporters make a mistake if they appear to be too much like an opposition to the president or the resistance. That’s not our job. We’re not the opposition party. We’re supposed to report and report aggressively on the president, on any president, but not to go over the top.”
Karl also notes that in 2018, Acosta insisted then-Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders state that the press wasn’t “the enemy of the people,” and that Acosta tried rallying reporters to chant “We are not the enemy of the people” outside the White House.
There have been criticisms of Acosta in the past by other journalists as well, claiming that he tries to make the press briefings about himself and crowd out other journalists.
It is worth noting that Acosta lost his press pass last year for forcibly placing his hand on a White House aide who attempted to take away the microphone from him as he kept trying to ask questions and leaving other journalists no time for theirs.
As Sanders stated at the time:
“President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his administration,” Sanders said in the statement. “We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern.
This conduct is absolutely unacceptable. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question. President Trump has given the press more access than any president in history. Contrary to CNN’s assertions, there is no greater demonstration of the president’s support for a free press than the event he held today. Only they would attack the president for not supporting a free press in the midst of him taking 68 questions from 35 different reporters over the course of 1.5 hours including several from the reporter in question. The fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it‘s an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this administration. As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice.”
The fact that even liberal media members can’t stand Acosta’s antics may urge him to consider changing his mannerisms.
