New York’s leftist Attorney General Letitia James released a report earlier today alleging that New York’s nursing home deaths are severely undercounted.

According to CNBC:

The New York Department of Health underreported Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes by as much as 50%, according to a new report.

The 76-page report comes after a months-long investigation by the attorney general’s office into allegations that nursing homes failed to follow coronavirus safety protocols. Her office was also investigating discrepancies between the number of nursing home deaths reported by the state’s department of health and the number of deaths reported by the facilities themselves.

The investigation found that the number of Covid deaths among nursing home residents in some facilities rose by more than 50% after counting residents who died in the hospital. The state’s official Covid-19 death toll in nursing homes excludes patients who died after being transported to a hospital.

James’ findings are based on a survey of 62 nursing homes, or about 10% of nursing homes in the state. She said her office continues to investigate discrepancies in the data reported by the department of health and the numbers reported to the attorney general’s office.

Fox News’ Janice Dean, who lost two family members to Cuomo’s incompetence, had an emotional reaction to the report – happy that it could finally lead to justice being served and Cuomo being held accountable.

Even more shocking than the “50% undercounted” statistic is the fact that this isn’t actually some grand revelation. We’ve known since at least August that the nursing home death toll was undercounted – and roughly to the same extent as this report reveals.

As I noted in my forthcoming book “Dumb and Dumber” (about Bill de Blasio and Cuomo), if a senior in a nursing home with coronavirus is transported to a hospital and dies from it, their death is not counted as a nursing home death, even if that’s where they contracted the virus. For the 43 states that gave a breakdown of their nursing home data, nursing home resident deaths made up 44% of all coronavirus deaths in their states. If the same exact proportion to hold true in New York, it would’ve translated to 11,000 nursing home deaths (as of August) – at a time when only 6,000 were reported.

As Cuomo himself would say: incompetent government kills people.

He would know.
