NY Assembly Dems Greenlight “Impeachment Investigation” of Gov. Cuomo

Six woman have now accused New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and on two occasions he’s publicly refused to resign. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio called for his resignation yesterday, as has a majority of the NY legislature. Cuomo has made it clear; if you want me gone, you’ll have to impeach me.

And to that, lawmakers say “challenge accepted.

According to the New York Post:

Democrats in the state Assembly on Thursday gave a green light for an “impeachment investigation” of Gov. Andrew Cuomo by the Judiciary Committee — the first step toward potentially removing him from office.

Speaker Carl Heastie (D-The Bronx) announced the momentous decision following an afternoon meeting of the entire Democratic Assembly conference.

Heastie said he was “authorizing the Assembly Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment investigation, led by Chair Charles D. Lavine, to examine allegations of misconduct against Governor Cuomo.”

“The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious,” Heastie said.

“The committee will have the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, as is allowed by the New York State Constitution.”

Cuomo is also being investigated by AG Letitia James over his nursing home policies and coverup. Heastie says his probe won’t interfere with that investigation, and that he notified James of his plans ahead of time.

The sixth woman to come forward to accuse Cuomo, who hasn’t yet been identified, says she was summoned to his residence to fix a problem with his cell phone where she was groped. Cuomo denies forcibly touching anyone, and the allegations have been referred to Albany police.

UPDATE: A seventh woman has come forward since publication, prompting Cuomo to again refuse to resign. This time he claimed that doing so would be “bowing to cancel culture.”
