Obama Condemns Investigation Into Biden and Ukraine, Linking it to “Russian Disinformation”
The President who presided over Spygate is keeping Russia hysteria alive and well.
Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings in Ukraine came under fire last year, particularly his lucrative gig with Burisma despite his lack of industry knowledge. It was Trump supposedly trying to get Ukraine to investigate these business dealings that spawned the whole impeachment saga. Democrats were apparently more offended by alleged inquiries into corruption than corruption itself.
And now former President and last-minute Joe Biden endorser Barack Obama is out with a new defense – that any concern over Hunter Biden is just helping promote Russian disinformation, or something.
According to Fox News:
The office of former President Barack Obama in March privately bashed Senate Republicans’ investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son in Ukraine, a probe it deemed as lending credence to a “Russian disinformation campaign,” according to a letter obtained by Fox News.
The letter, addressed to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), which manages presidential records, was written in response to a request on Nov. 21, 2019, by Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson for Obama administration records on Ukraine-related meetings.
The letter referred to their request as improper use of the NARA’s release terms and a supposed effort “to shift the blame for Russian interference in the 2016 election to Ukraine.”
It goes on to cite testimony from former National Security aide Fiona Hill who derided the idea of Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election as a “fictional narrative that is being perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services.”
Contrary to what Hill claims, that there was Ukrainian interference is the 2016 election is no Russian hoax. As one article over at POLITICO (no fan of the President) reported in January 2017:
Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.
The release of Obama’s letter came after Grassley and Johnson sent a letter to the secretary of state last month demanding more information on Obama’s dealings in Ukraine.
