Never one to miss an opportunity to root against the United States, Rep. Ilhan Omar slammed President Trump’s new sanctions against Iran, claiming the move would “starve” innocent Iranians and was an act of “economic warfare.”
In an address to the nation yesterday, President Trump announced that he would implement “punishing” sanctions on Iran after the terrorist nation launched missiles on Iraqi military bases where U.S. troops were present.
“As we continue to evaluate options and response to Iranian aggression, the United States will immediately impose additional punishing economic sanctions on the Iranian regime,” Trump said. “These powerful sanctions will remain until Iran changes its behavior.”
This, of course, did not sit well with Omar, who tweeted after the President’s announcement, “This makes no sense. Sanctions are economic warfare. They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want deescalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”

At a news conference yesterday, Omar reiterated her sentiments, saying “Since he got into office, the president of the United States has been goading Iran into war. First he canceled our best shot at avoiding armed conflict – the Iran nuclear deal. Then he announced crippling sanctions to starve the innocent people of Iran.”
Interestingly enough, Omar has no problem with sanctions when it comes to U.S. ally, Israel.
The congresswoman is a strong supporter of the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) against Israel.
Fox News points out that Omar was among 16 Democrats who voted against a bipartisan resolution opposing the anti-Semitic BDS movement.
The resolution stated, “’By denying the Jewish claim to a homeland, the BDS Movement is fundamentally incompatible with a two-state solution and pushes the cause of peace for both Israel and the Palestinians further out of reach. ‘This resolution makes clear that Congress remains committed to a two-state solution and opposes zero-sum efforts to delegitimize the state of Israel.’”
Omar also came under fire yesterday after she appeared to be laughing and talking at a press conference while her colleague, Rep Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) was discussing American casualties in Iraq.
Congressman Jody Hice (R-GA) took to Twitter, calling Omar’s petulant behavior, “absolutely shameful.”

The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra said he heard from multiple service members who were disgusted with Omar’s conduct during the press conference.

Decorated combat veteran and U.S. congressional candidate, Sean Parnell called on his Democratic opponent to condemn Omar’s behavior, writing, “@ConorLambPA I’m calling on you to condemn your colleague’s behavior here & defend our men & women in uniform who fought & bled for our nation. I know you vote with her 90% of the time, but this is beyond politics. As a US Marine, this should horrify & disgust you”
