Former Chinese political prisoner Ai Weiwei appeared on PBS’ Firing Line with Margaret Hoover to speak out against the authoritarian regime, and at one point Hoover attempted to goad Weiwei into comparing China’s authoritarianism (which the media otherwise completely ignores) to Donald Trump.
He didn’t take the bait, and pointed out that even if Trump had authoritarian beliefs, he lacked a system supporting him to carry that out – but did add that he believes we already live in an authoritarian state in America due to things like political correctness.
