Democrats have been calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump since before he even took office, and at long last, the impeachment circus is in town.
Just like we saw with the conclusion of the Robert Mueller investigation, no smoking gun has yet been uncovered. And if we haven’t seen one yet, what are the odds we’ll ever see one?
That hasn’t stopped the Democrats from scrambling to find one, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just admitted why – they’re afraid they can’t defeat Trump on their own in 2020.
As the Daily Caller reported:
Pelosi doubled down on impeachment Monday, telling her Democratic colleagues in a memo that it was “weak” and “dangerous” to back off and let the American people decide in 2020.
“The weak response to these hearings has been, ‘Let the election decide.’ That dangerous position only adds to the urgency of our action, because POTUS is jeopardizing the integrity of the 2020 elections,” Pelosi explained.
She further added that the facts of the Ukraine witch hunt are “uncontested” (I’m sure she thought the same about Russia), and that Trump “has abused his power for his own personal, political benefit, at the expense of our national security interests.”
Speaking of uncontested facts, the Democrats had to loosen the rules for what qualified as a whistle-blower complaint right ahead of its submission, and Ukraine’s President has outright denied a quid pro quo on multiple occasions. And if there’s still any doubt, to quote President Trump – “READ THE TRANSCRIPT!”
That said, given the quality of Democrat presidential candidates running, I can’t say I can fault Pelosi for her concerns.
