Pelosi Says There Shouldn’t Be Any Trump vs. Biden Debates
Earlier this month, CNN’s Brian Stelter dismissed the idea that there was anyone in power who wouldn’t want Joe Biden to debate President Donald Trump as a right wing conspiracy “fueled by hour after hour of Fox commentary.” Earlier this morning, Nancy Pelosi, who is not a right winger and does not work for Fox News, said she doesn’t think Joe Biden should debate President Donald Trump.
“I don’t think there should be any debates. I do not think the president of the United States has comported himself in a way that anybody has any association with truth, evidence, data and facts. I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States,” Pelosi said.
“I know the Biden campaign thinks in a different way about this. But I just thought what [Trump] he did in 2016 was disgraceful, stalking Hillary Clinton like that. I was disappointed the press didn’t say, ‘Go back to your station. You don’t own this stage. You have your own podium. She has hers,’ ” she also said.
Biden has since reacted by dismissing Pelosi’s comments, saying that he’ll be a “fact checker on the floor.” It will certainly be interesting to see the fact checking skills of a man who forgets how many granddaughters he has on display.
Every sign already tells us that Biden’s handlers would like to keep his public exposure to the minimum. Biden may not be able to run a campaign out of his basement – but it’s certainly better than the one he can run outside if it. The Trump campaign pushed for a fourth presidential debate between the candidates, which the Biden campaign rejected – hardly a vote of confidence in their candidate.
President Bill Clinton’s former spokesman Joe Lockhart penned an op-ed earlier in the month arguing that Biden shouldn’t debate Trump at all. “Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” he wrote as advice to Biden. His justification was that Trump would simply lie and ignore the rules of the debate. Those are simply Lockhart’s excuses for why he doesn’t want a man who can barely string together a sentence anywhere near the debate stage (and the fact that he has no confidence in Biden’s ability to refute Trump’s supposed lies seems to reveal that fact).
Meanwhile, President Trump has called for drug testing before the debates, but that seems unnecessary because he’ll be debating Joe Biden, not Hunter Biden.
