According to a Harvard/Harris poll, 67% of registered voters want Joe Biden to reinstate Donald Trump’s extremely effective “Remain in Mexico” program that stopped illegal aliens before they got to America’s borders. Biden abandoned the policy and has instead chosen to simply catch and release illegal aliens into the United States.
The poll also shows that 64 percent of registered voters think Biden should âissue new, stricter policies to reduce the flow of people across the border.â Another 55% of registered percent of registered voters think Biden should have kept Trump’s policies that resulted in illegal immigration in place.
As someone who has been looking at immigration polling for more than a decade, it’s worth noting that it always tends to be a little mixed. Things like comprehensive immigration reform and letting “Dreamers” tend to do well in polling, but with a huge caveat. The support for policies like that tends to be soft, while the opposition tends to be rabid. In other words, the supporters of those policies tend to consider them to be “nice to have” while the opponents of those policies will not forget or forgive politicians that cross them on those issues.
However, one constant that has been the case for a long time is that Americans have always wanted border security. This is why, up until very recently, pro-amnesty politicians have always lied about their intention to secure the border. At this point, with Joe Biden doing almost everything possible to facilitate illegal immigration into the United States, the mask is off. Joe Biden intends to leave the border wide open, encourage illegal immigration and do everything in his power to increase the number of illegal aliens coming here. That may be popular with the crazy liberal crowd, but that is not what the vast majority of Americans want and it’s very likely to be a good issue for Republicans to use in the mid-terms if they’re smart enough to run on it.
