A new poll shows that Americans in key battlegrounds are growing increasingly frustrated with President Biden and his party, most notably when it comes to the economy and the administration’s response to inflation.
From the Washington Examiner:
A new poll commissioned by the GOP found that voters feel team Biden is both “out of touch” and “condescending,” traits that have led to a widening preference gap in the congressional midterm elections that favors Republicans.
“Battleground voters continue to hold Democrats responsible for the negative impact that record-high inflation, soaring crime, and the crisis along our southern border are having on their lives. Additionally, these voters overwhelmingly support Republicans who are focused on addressing these issues,” said the polling memo, which was written by three top national polling outfits for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Biden’s approval rating in key battleground districts continues to be poor, with only 40% of voters signally approval for the president compared to 55% who disapprove. Those numbers have had an impact on the Democratic Party, with 75% of respondents saying that Democrats are “out of touch with everyday people and are condescending toward voters.”
The economy gained the most concern among battleground voters, with 46% saying it was their greatest concern. Inflation were also major concerns for voters, with 26% saying it is the most concerning issue.
The voters are also paying higher prices at the pump, something 52% of those polled indicated they blame on Biden and Democrats. Despite the administration’s push to blame rising gas prices on Russia’s war in Ukraine, only 31% of respondents indicated they believed that was to blame for the issue.
The overall picture the poll paints appears to be dire for Democrats, with Republicans leading the generic congressional ballot by 4 points, a large swing from when Biden was able to carry the districts by roughly 5 points during the 2020 election.
