President Donald Trump just announced that he will not be attending the inauguration of Joe Biden on the 20th.
This will make Trump the fourth incumbent President to refuse to attend the inauguration of the President-elect. The previous three were John Adams in 1801, John Quincy Adams in 1829, and Andrew Johnson in 1869.
There have been rumors that Trump would hold a rival rally during Biden’s inauguration, however, the events that transpired at the Capitol building following Wednesday’s rally have likely killed any chances of that.
In a statement yesterday, Trump acknowledged that avenues for legal challenges to the election had been exhausted. “A new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.”
