On Tuesday, President Trump announced that he will announce his Supreme Court nominee at the White House on Saturday.
Following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday at 87 due to cancer complications, Trump has vowed to fill the seat quickly. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has committed to this as well.
According to Fox News, sources say that Trump has met with Judge Amy Coney Barrett of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The president is reportedly also looking at Judge Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit.
Fox reports further:
Trump said Monday that he would wait until after memorial ceremonies for Ginsburg had concluded before making his announcement. Ginsburg will lie in repose at the Supreme Court on Wednesday and Thursday, and then lie in state at the National Statuary Hall of the United States Capitol on Friday.
“I think we should, with all due respect for Justice Ginsburg, wait for services to be over,” Trump said.
