Rand Paul Blasts Republicans Who Voted to Impeach Trump But Against Firing Fauci

Fight tech tyranny. Join Dan on Rumble.

Senator Rand Paul’s amendment to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci surprisingly found resistance from his fellow Republicans, with six of them voting against it.

They were Senators Richard Burr of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, and Jerry Moran of Kansas.

As Paul noted, all but one them were opposed to firing the highest paid federal employee who helped engineer policies that decimated small businesses and further catalyzed national crises of drug abuse and mental health, but had no problem in voting to fire Donald Trump. Paul said to the Daily Caller: “I guess I’m not surprised that Republican senators who voted to get rid of Donald Trump voted to keep Anthony Fauci. Disappointed but not surprised. I think if Republican voters in their home states learn of this vote to keep Anthony Fauci, these voters will be very unhappy.”

The only Republican who voted against firing Fauci that didn’t vote to impeach Trump was Sen. Moran, who didn’t vote to impeach Trump in either trial.

The circumstances of Trump’s first impeachment over his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again become a talking point, with liberals framing it as Trump “trying to extort” Zelensky by withholding $400 million in military aid in exchange for investigating Hunter Biden. Though as I’ve noted elsewhere:

The $400 million in aid was disbursed on September 11 [of 2020]. The Trump administration initially planned on disbursing the aid in February, but did not. White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney had told reporters in mid-July, a week before Trump’s phone call with Zelensky, that aid to Ukraine was being withheld due to concerns over its necessity. Are we to believe that aid was withheld in February in anticipation of a phone callnearlysix months later?

There’s obvious irony here in that Biden himself was in a “quid pro quo” situation with Ukraine when he threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid if the prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was investigating Burisma, wasn’t fired. And in that case, we know that Biden got exactly what he demanded.
