Reminder: Biden Cautioned Against Raid That Killed Osama Bin Laden
If Joe Biden had his way, it’s quite possible that Osama Bin Laden would still be alive today.
It was on May 2nd, 2011 that Barack Obama broke the news to the American public of the raid that took out Osama. Biden quickly turned the success into a rallying cry. “Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive” he famously quipped. Ironically the SEAL credited with killing bin Laden is no fan of Obama and Biden.
The Obama administration sat on the intel of bin Laden’s whereabouts for almost year, and if Biden has his way, they probably would’ve sat on it indefinitely.
As the Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra reminds us:
While on the campaign trail earlier this year, Biden falsely claimed that he never told Obama “don’t go” after bin Laden that day.
Biden denied the allegations in an interview with Fox News earlier in the year after Peter Doocey asked “and didn’t you tell President Obama ‘don’t go’ after bin Laden that day?”” to which Biden simply relied “No, I didn’t. I didn’t.”
Even the failing Washington Post’s fact checker couldn’t let that claim slide, noting:
“According to the various accounts of administration officials involved in the internal debate, Biden was one of the two main skeptics of the intelligence suggesting that bin Laden was in Abbottabad. He publicly even stated that he said ‘don’t go’ until more intelligence was gathered,” the Washington Post reported. “So it’s certainly clear he advised Obama not to go at that moment when Obama’s advisers were debating the issue. No matter what he said to Obama privately, he cannot so easily argue that he did not offer this guidance.”
Bin Laden, on the other hand, wanted to push the U.S. into “crisis” by assassinating Obama and thrusting “totally unprepared” Biden into the presidency.
“In a letter, bin Laden wrote to a top Al-Qaeda official that he was instructing the Islamic terrorist organization to create two groups to watch for and target U.S. aircraft visiting the region that could be carrying Obama or then-CIA Director David Petraeus.”. “Bin Laden specifically instructed the terrorists to ‘not to target visits by U.S. Vice President Biden.’”
According to a 2012 Washington Post article, bin Laden had specifically wrote: “Obama is the head of infidelity, and killing him automatically will make Biden take over the presidency. Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis.”
Here’s Biden in his own words on the raid back in 2012, where he admits cautioning against it:
It wasn’t until he began teasing a presidential run back in 2015 that he began changing his story:
Thank God nobody listens to sleepy Joe.
