Rep. Andy Biggs to File Impeachment Articles Against DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is going to be facing articles of impeachment due to his failure at the border. 

According to Fox News:

House Judiciary Committee member Andy Biggs announced he will bring articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Tuesday on "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

Biggs, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said it is the responsibility of Congress to "remove a public official from office … who is causing public harm," citing the Founding Fathers' intents

The lawmaker said he has been questioned about his plan, because Mayorkas has not been charged with any felonies or misdemeanors – in the vein of the impeachment clause's "high crimes and misdemeanors.

"High crimes means that you are a public official, and you have violated the public trust, and you have to be removed," Biggs said.

The number of encounters with illegal aliens topped 2 million in a single fiscal year for the first time in FY2022. While it is impossible to know for sure the exact number who successfully enter the U.S. illegally, apprehensions and arrests are often used as a proxy for successful border crossings. One study published in 2013 by the Council of Foreign Relations estimated the relationship to be roughly one successful crossing for one apprehension, which would imply over 2 million illegals have successfully crossed the border in FY 2022 alone.
