Just how clueless are the Democrats in Congress?
Rep. Pramila Jayapal helped provide us with an answer to that very question this week when discussing one consequence of the Biden-Harris border crisis that she either doesnât think exists, or is pretending doesnât exist.
She opened a House Judiciary Committee hearing by lying to everyone that:
Rep. Jayapal: âTodayâs hearing will be one final attempt by the majority to use all their same, false talking points that the Biden administration purposefully lost tens of thousands of children, all of which we know is wrong by the facts. And Iâm sure [HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra] will address this as well, but letâs just be clear, these children are not lost. HHSâ legal authority ceases once an unaccompanied child is reunited with a sponsor, usually a parent or a close relative. While HHS conducts three follow-up calls to ensure that everything is going well between a sponsor and a child, the agency has no ability to force their way into the home. If no one answers these three calls, then HHS is no longer in contact with the child. Now that does not mean that the child is lost.â
âJust because weâre not in contact with a child doesnât mean theyâre lostâ is an incredible thing to argue. While it may be true in some cases, thereâs quite literally no way of knowing if anything is sinister is happening. Jayapal just imagines in her head that nothing wrong is happening and passes that off as truth.
According to a report by the Department of Homeland Securityâs Office of the Inspector General (OIG), ICE has lost track of at least 32,000 migrant children since 2019.
As the Daily Callerâs Nicole Silverio notes, the OIG report Jayapal is trying to spin already debunks her argument.
HHS, the agency responsible for placing children with adults sponsors, has reunited about one-third of these unaccompanied children with their parents in the U.S., while the remainder are sent either live with other relatives or even strangers, according to The New York Times. Biden administration officials placed some of these minors in homes that were not deemed suitable for children, including homes where some adults have committed criminal behavior, according to an internal investigation conducted by the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Federal officials believe these unaccompanied children are at a greater risk of forced labor, trafficking and exploitation than adult migrants who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the OIG report.
And that aside, children are hardly the only people ICE is losing track of. As of July 2024, there were over 660,000 illegal aliens with criminal histories on ICEâs national docket, of which 13,000 illegals committed homicide and 15,000 were convicted of sexual assault, that are in our country free. Surely Rep. Jayapal canât spin that one - though Iâm sure sheâll give it a try.
