Report: MS-13 Gang Members Plan to Attack Off Duty NYPD Officers
The NYPD is warning that MS-13 gang members are looking to attack off-duty police officers “in order to gain street credibility.”
CBS2 reports that an NYPD bulletin states, “Members of MS-13 are looking to ‘hit’ NYPD police officers, specifically in the Brentwood/Central Islip area as well as possibly Patchogue.”
The bulletin says the gang members may be trying to target off-duty police officers near their homes and that the members are already conducting “reconnaissance” of MOS private residences.
According to DOJ official Robert Hur, MS-13’s motto is “mata viola controla” which means “kill, rape control.”
“They seek to live up to this motto through truly shocking acts of violence designed to instill fear: vicious machete attacks, execution-style gunshots, gang rape and human trafficking,” Hur told Fox News.
The gang was started by mainly El Salvadorian immigrants in Los Angeles in the 1980s and has since grown to include Mexicans, Guatemalans and Hondurans.”
It is believed that MS-13 is responsible for at least 25 killings on Long Island, NY in the past two years.
The NYPD is warning its officers to be on alert when they are off-duty and around their homes and suggests they change routines whenever possible.
