As if any more evidence was needed that so-called “fact-checking” is nothing more than a way for the left to “opinion check” anything they don’t like, it’s been revealed that George Soros has poured more money into fighting what leftists brand as disinformation than we previously thought.
As the Media Research Center’s Joseph Vazquez uncovered:
Soros poured $14,853,765 into at least 50 groups for the express purpose of railing against “disinformation” online and elsewhere between 2017-2021 alone, according to Open Society Foundations records. The Soros-funded groups found in MRC Free Speech America’s tally included radicalized organizations engineered to fight against “disinformation” disseminated by users on Big Tech platforms.
While the Open Society Foundations is now run by Alexander Soros, the son of George, George was at the helm at the time of this funding.
Pushing censorship in the name of fighting disinformation has become to effective that the Biden administration tried to create a de-facto government fact-checker through its short-lived "Disinformation Governance Board" - which was to be headed by a woman who spread countless falsehoods herself, such as branding Hunter Biden's laptop "Russian disinfo"
Among the grants Vazquez uncovered included:
One U.S.-based grant [that] went to a leftist group called the Institute for Strategic Dialogue “to detect and expose online activity that poses a threat to the health of the US information environment.”
Another grant to the leftist Aspen Institute Germany was for the purpose of engaging “online influencers in the fight against disinformation and strengthen[ing] a fact-based information ecosystem in Germany in the run-up to the 2021 federal elections.”
The group that received the most “disinformation” funding was the dark money behemoth Sixteen Thirty Fund, which received a whopping $3,500,000 split between two grants in 2020 alone. One of the grant’s purposes was to fight so-called “racialized disinformation.” Sixteen Thirty Fund is the same group that unleashed $410 million to defeat President Donald Trump and seize the Senate for Democrats during the 2020 election. One of the Fund’s wild projects, Fix Our Senate, attempted to kill the Senate filibuster.
Among many, many others. Be sure to read the full report.
As I wrote previously, Soros has his flag planted firmly in the most influential faux fact-checking network. Major funding for PolitiFact’s parent company, The Poynter Institute, includes the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Ford Foundation, Soros-backed Tides Foundation and Tides Center, the Carnegie Corp. of New York among many others.
One project of the Poynter Institute specifically, the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), was launched in 2015 with its initial funding coming from the National Endowment for Democracy (backed by the US State Department), the Omidyar Network, Google, Facebook, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
Fact-checking organizations like this are given the status of “final arbiter of truth” on social media platforms like Facebook, and can thus be abused to censor information the fact-checkers personally don’t like by writing an opinion-check masquerading as a fact-check about that information.
Further playing offense, back in 2022 George Soros and fellow leftist billionaire Reid Hoffman (known for co-founding LinkedIn) founded the hilariously Orwellian-named “Good Information Inc,” which has yet to produce any good information, to further police speech online.
