Decision Desk HQ was the first to make the call last night, announcing that Republicans had officially won a 218 seat majority. Since announcing the flip, Decision Desk also called another race for Republicans, bringing their seat total up to 219.

Republicans began the process to pick the next House leader before the 218th seat was called in their favor yesterday, nominating Kevin McCarthy in a 188-31 vote. Those 31 defectors are likely to pose a problem down the road for him, as he'll need at least 218 votes to become speaker in January.
