A week after election day, Republicans have officially retaken the House of Representatives.

Decision Desk HQ was the first to make the call last night, announcing that Republicans had officially won a 218 seat majority. Since announcing the flip, Decision Desk also called another race for Republicans, bringing their seat total up to 219.
As of writing, Democrats have lost 9 House seats while Republicans gained 9.

Republicans began the process to pick the next House leader before the 218th seat was called in their favor yesterday, nominating Kevin McCarthy in a 188-31 vote. Those 31 defectors are likely to pose a problem down the road for him, as he'll need at least 218 votes to become speaker in January.
