Ron DeSantis Rules Out 2024 White House Run, Plans to Run for Reelection as Florida Governor Instead
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Tuesday that he plans to run for a second four-year term for governor, and plans to make a formal announcement at the end of the year.
Politico reports that DeSantis said that speculation about a 2024 presidential bid was “total garbage” and that it was a “safe assumption” he would run for a second term as governor, saying “I’m planning that, I haven’t announced yet, but I think it’s a safe assumption that I will do it. Any political stuff that you hear along those lines—that is total garbage. It’s not coming from me. I’m just doing a day at a time.”
Noting that he has three children under the age of 5, DeSantis knocked the notion that every office is a stepping stone for a higher one, saying that “I’ve got a young family, I have a good job, we have gotten a lot accomplished here. What’s wrong with just actually having accomplishments?”
DeSantis is, unquestionably, a great conservative and would make a great president. Florida is lucky to have him as governor and hopefully will again for a second term.
