San Francisco Quietly Reopened City-Owned Gyms While Keeping Private Gyms Closed

Within a week, San Francisco has added both “SalonGate” and “GymGate” to their list of coronavirus related scandals.

Nancy Pelosi was caught on a security camera violating San Francisco’s coronavirus lockdown edicts by having her hair done without a mask inside a salon that was closed to the public because the city would not allow it to open. Pelosi responded by claiming that she was “set up” and demanded an apology. San Francisco’s Mayor also rallied to Pelosi’s defense, saying without a hint of irony that it was OK she broke the rules because she’s “fighting a tyrant every day.”

Now this week we learn that as the city’s gyms have been shut down for months, government employees have effectively gotten an exemption to those rules.

As the Washington Examiner’s Emma Colton reports:

Gyms within government buildings in San Francisco have been open for months, despite privately owned establishments being ordered to close due to the coronavirus.

The gyms that have been open for government employees include those for police officers, judges, lawyers, bailiffs, and paralegals, according to the report. One such gym, the Hall of Justice gym, has been open since July 1.

“It just demonstrates that there seems to be some kind of a double standard between what city employees are allowed to do and what the residents of San Francisco are allowed to do,” Dave Karraker, owner of MX3 Fitness in the Castro, said.

“What the city has unwillingly done is created this great case study that says that working out indoors is actually safe,” said Karraker. “So, at this point, we’re just demanding that they allow us to have the same workout privileges for the citizens of San Francisco that the employees of San Francisco have.”

If government gyms are open, the justification given for keeping private gyms closed (that they’ll exacerbate spread of the coronavirus) must be bogus, and those in government know it.

One thing that has been made clear during the pandemic is that the same liberal leaders who will brand anyone who wants to go outside a “grandma killer” have no problem engaging in the same behavior they outlaw. On the East Coast, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio infamously was spotted visiting the gym for one last workout after they were ordered closed. Any pandemic related concerns immediately go out the window when they inconvenience those implementing them.
