What exactly does a George Soros-backed prosecutor do all day? Anything except prosecute.According to the New York Post:
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is an “authoritarian” and “toxic” manager whose ultra-woke approach has led scores of prosecutors to quit and 10,000 cases to pile up, sources tell The Post.
Justice is not being served in the most populous county in the nation because Gascón has driven talent away, demoted top lawyers and fights anyone who doesn’t share his views, according to multiple sources who have worked for him.
One former LA prosecutor said Gascón’s policies have eroded trust with the public the office serves, through generous plea deals allowing criminals to get out of jail or prison without serving hard time or declining to prosecute crimes at all.
“In my career as a prosecutor, I’ve never had victims’ families actually hate us until I came into this office,” a former deputy DA told The Post. “We are hated by all the victims because of lack of prosecution and low sentences because of his policies.”
Soros spent over $2.5 million backing Gascón, who assumed office as Los Angeles DA in December 2020. During Gascón’s prior tenure at San Francisco’s DA, a position he held until January 2019, property crime increased by 49 percent and misdemeanor charges were filed in only 40 percent of cases presented by the police.
After taking office, Gascón announced that he would no longer prosecute crimes that he says are “associated with poverty.” Most crimes are committed disproportionately by the poor, so this kind of reasoning opens up Pandora’s box in legalizing most crimes. Gascón said that crimes such a trespassing, disturbing the peace, driving without a license, driving on a suspended license, drug and paraphernalia possession, drinking in public, public intoxication, loitering to commit prostitution, and resisting arrest will all “be declined or dismissed before arraignment and without conditions.”
Gascón disdain for consequences doesn’t stop with nonviolent crime either, as he eliminated sentencing enhancements for convicted criminals, issuing a directive statement that said “sentence enhancements or other sentencing allegations, including under the Three Strikes law, shall not be filed in any cases, and shall be withdrawn in pending matters.”
As is always the case, wherever Soros’ money goes, chaos follows.
