Poll: New Yorkers Say AOC Biggest “Villain” in Amazon Decision to Leave City

A new Siena College poll has found that New Yorkers consider freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) the top “villain” in Amazon’s decision to pull the plug on plans to build its headquarters in the city–costing the city thousands of high-paying jobs.

Breitbart reports:

The poll, released on Monday, asked voters to rank leaders as “hero,” “villain,” or “role player” in causing Amazon to change its plan to build a new headquarter in the Queens neighborhood.

Thirty-eight percent picked freshman Democratic Socialist Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as the chief villain, while only 12 percent responded that she was a “hero” in opposing Amazon’s plan.

Thirty-four percent called local activists the top villain, followed by New York Mayor de Blasio (29 percent), Gov. Andrew Cuomo (26 percent), Amazon (21 percent) and labor unions (17 percent).

Sixty-seven percent of respondents said that Amazon’s decision to leave the city was “bad” for the state, while just 21 percent said it was “good.”

Amazon was set to create 25,000-40,000 high-paying jobs in the city–with the average salary at $150,000.

The poll also found that a slight majority disagree with New York’s seemingly never-ending shift to the left–with 51 percent of voters saying the state is too liberal, while 36 percent disagree.

NY Aggressively Auditing Residents Fleeing State, Tracking Social Media, Phone Records

New York is aggressively auditing its wealthy residents attempting to flee the high-tax state for Florida, going so far as to monitor cell phone records, social media use and visits to the veterinarian or dentist, according to CNBC.

The state is facing a $2.3 billion budget deficit, which Governor Andrew Cuomo blames on the change in federal tax laws limiting state and local deductions.

“Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich,” said Cuomo last month. “We did. Now, God forbid, the rich leave.”

Accountant Barry Horowitz told CNBC, “If you’re a high earner in New York and you move to Florida, your chances of a residency audit are 100 percent.  New York has always been aggressive. But it’s getting worse.”

CNBC reports, “New York conducted about 3,000 ‘nonresidency’ audits a year between 2010 and 2017, collecting around $1 billion, according to Monaeo, a company that sells an app for tracking and proving tax residency.”

Tax attorney Mark Klein told the news outlet that his office is working on about 200 tax-residency audits.

“We’re seeing a huge uptick in our practice,” Klein said. “I’m seeing dozens of extremely high-income individuals actually leaving New York.

CNBC notes that New York has an “arsenal” of high tech “weapons” to use in its residency audits.

“Tax experts say the state now can retrieve a taxpayer’s cellphone records to check the location of all the calls they make and receive,” writes CNBC. “Auditors have also checked people’s social media feeds to make sure they are being truthful about their location.”

Auditors are now looking to ensure a taxpayer’s home in New York is smaller and less expensive than their Florida home. They also want to see if taxpayer’s cherished family photos, artwork, etc. were moved to Florida or if they are still in the New York home.

“Having a wealth manager in Florida and a country club membership there is also a must,” writes CNBC.

If taxpayers go to the dentist or take their dogs to a veterinarian in New York, it’s considered a red flag to auditors.

“It’s one thing to seek specialized medical treatment at a New York hospital, ” Klein said. “But auditors know that most people don’t travel to another state for their dentist.”

When it comes to the family dogs, Klein says, “Pets are considered part of your family. So if you want to lose a case very quickly, kennel your dog in New York when you travel.”

Poll: More Dems Identify as Pro-Life After New York Passed Extreme Abortion Bill

A new poll has found that more Democrats identify as “pro-life” after New York enacted an extreme law allowing for abortions for any reason up until birth.

A Marist poll conducted for the Catholic organization, Knights of Columbus found that “The number of Democrats now identifying as pro-life is 34 percent, up from 20 percent last month, while the number identifying as pro-choice fell from 75 percent to 61 percent.”

The poll also found that 71 percent of Americans believe abortion in the third trimester should “generally be illegal.”

The director of the Marist Poll, Barbara Carvalho credits the opinion shift to the states enacting radical abortion legislation enabling abortion up until birth.

The Daily Signal reports:

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed a bill Jan. 22 legalizing abortion up to birth. Similar legislation proposed in Virginia was voted down Jan. 28.

Those developments “have not gone unnoticed by the general public,” Carvalho said.

“In just one month, there has been a significant increase in the proportion of Americans who see themselves as pro-life and an equally notable decline in those who describe themselves as pro-choice,” she said.

Vermont is also in the process of legalizing abortion without restrictions.

Last week, lawmakers passed a disturbing abortion bill which claims every person has a right to an abortion for any reason and strips unborn children of any rights.

The bill passed in the House 106 to 36 and states “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry a pregnancy to term, give birth to a child, or to have an abortion.”

It also does not recognize the personhood of an unborn child.

“A fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus shall not have independent rights under Vermont law,” states the law.

Virginia Now Considering Law Legalizing Abortion Up Until Birth

New York lawmakers recently celebrated when they voted to legalize abortion up until birth, and now it seems Virginia may not be too far behind.

The Repeal Act–introduced by Democratic Delegate Kathy Tran–seeks to repeal the state’s restrictions on late-term abortions. Ultrasounds would no longer be required for women seeking abortions and the law would eliminate the state’s stipulation that second and third trimester abortions only be performed to preserve the life or health of the woman.

The Daily Caller reports:

Currently, three physicians must conclude that a third-trimester abortion is necessary to preserve the health or life of the woman. Those requirements are stripped under the proposed legislation, which also removes the state’s mandate that second and third-trimester abortions be performed in hospitals.

“The third trimester goes all the way up to forty weeks,” according to Tran, The Republican Standard reported. The bill would allow a doctor to perform an abortion when a woman is dilating, meaning she is about to give birth.

Last week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the radical Reproductive Health Act into law on the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.

The bill states, “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion.”

LifeSite News reports that the law “erases the state’s recognition of preborn babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims, removes abortion from the penal code entirely, and allows licensed health practitioners other than full doctors to commit abortions.”

In a statement, Governor Cuomo said, “The Reproductive Health Act is a historic victory for New Yorkers and for our progressive values,” and ordered One World Trade Center to light up pink in celebration of the passage of legislation.

NYC “Celebrates” New Law Legalizing Abortion Until Birth, Lights Up One World Trade Center

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered One World Trade Center to light up pink in celebration of the passage of legislation that would allow abortion up until birth for any reason.

The Reproductive Health Act was signed into law yesterday on the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v.

In a statement, Governor Cuomo said, “The Reproductive Health Act is a historic victory for New Yorkers and for our progressive values.”

“In the face of a federal government intent on rolling back Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights, I promised that we would enact this critical legislation within the first 30 days of the new session — and we got it done. I am directing that New York’s landmarks be lit in pink to celebrate this achievement and shine a bright light forward for the rest of the nation to follow.”

New York Catholics have expressed their outrage over the law, with Albany Bishop Rev. Edward B. Scharfenberger writing an open letter slamming the “extreme abortion legislation.”

“Your advocacy of extreme abortion legislation is completely contrary to the teachings of our pope and our Church,” he wrote. “I shudder to think of the consequences this law will wreak. You have already uttered harsh threats about the welcome you think pro-lifers are not entitled to in our state. Now you are demonstrating that you mean to write your warning into law. Will being pro-life one day be a hate crime in the State of New York?”

Archbishop of New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, along with other bishops signed a letter condemning the bill, saying “our beloved state has become a more dangerous one for women and their unborn babies.”

“Our governor and legislative leaders hail this new abortion law as progress. This is not progress,” the bishops wrote. “Progress will be achieved when our laws and our culture once again value and respect each unrepeatable gift of human life, from the first moment of creation to natural death.”
