Freedom Caucus Unanimously Votes to Condemn Amash for Impeachment Comments

The House Freedom Caucus officially condemned its member, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) yesterday after the Congressman called for President Trump’s impeachment.

The Hill reports that Freedom Caucus member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said, “We had a good discussion and every single member, I think now based on who was there and our board meeting was probably over 30 members, every single member disagrees and strongly with the position Justin took over the week, and we’re focused on the now,” he said.

“I mean, look, we’re focused on the fact that what the FBI did was wrong. We think that [Attorney General William] Barr’s handled himself exactly the way the American people want the attorney general to handle themselves, and he’s going to get to bottom of all this.”

Over the weekend, Amash tweeted his support for President Trump’s impeachment, writing:

Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.

Pro-Trump Michigan State Rep. Jim Lower was quick to criticize Amash and announced he would challenge the congressman in the 2020 primary.

WWMT reports that Lower released a statement saying, “I am a Pro-Trump, Pro-Life, Pro-Jobs, Pro-2nd Amendment, Pro-Family Values Republican. Amash has not only failed to support President Trump as the President works to make the United States stronger and safer, he has now united with radical liberals like Democratic Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) to try and bring down our President. He must be replaced and I am going to do it.”

On Sunday, President Trump responded to Amash, calling him a “total lightweight.”

He wrote, “Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy. If he actually read the biased Mueller Report, “composed” by 18 Angry Dems who hated Trump….”

Report: Barr Jokes to Pelosi, Asks if She Brought “Handcuffs” for Him

During the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day event at Capitol Hill, Attorney General William Barr asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) if she brought her “handcuffs” for him after she accused him of lying to Congress earlier this month, according to the Free Beacon.

The Beacon reports:

According to multiple reporters, Barr approached Pelosi following the National Peace Officers Memorial Service in Washington, shook her hand, and asked, “Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?” Pelosi smiled and said the House Sergeant at Arms was present if an arrest was necessary, to which Barr laughed and walked away.

Last week, Democrats voted to hold Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to hand over the unredacted Mueller report.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) ripped into his colleagues for the vote, claiming Democrats were afraid that Bill Barr would expose the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation.

“I don’t think today is actually about getting information. I don’t think its about getting the unredacted Mueller report. I don’t think last week’s hearing was actually about having staff question the Attorney General. I think it’s all about trying to destroy Bill Barr because Democrats are nervous he’s going to get to the bottom of everything,” he said. “He’s going to find out how and why this investigation started in the first place.”

Jim Jordan: Democrats Already Started Impeachment Proceedings

Ranking House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said Democrats have already begun impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

Speaking with Fox Business host Lou Dobbs last night, Jordan explained that Chairman Jerrold Nadler’s plan to have Judiciary Committee staff ask questions Attorney General William Barr was a way to begin impeachment proceedings.

“…We have to understand the Democrats have already started impeachment proceedings, they’re just not calling it that. And the reason they’re not calling it that is because they know it is not justified and they know the American people don’t want it. But that is what they are doing and that’s why they want the staff to ask Bill Barr questions because that is how it works in the impeachment process. So, that’s what they’re trying to do.”

Jordan also said Barr should not appear at Thursday’s Judiciary Committee hearing if Nadler insists on changing the questioning format.

“…Bill Barr shouldn’t come,” he said. “Look, you can’t the Attorney General for the last three weeks like Democrats have done and then change the format in the last few days like they are trying to do. And expect the Attorney General to show up. Let the members ask the questions if they’re willing to do it the way its always done. Bill Barr will be there. If they’re not, he shouldn’t show up. And I’m 100% for him not showing up if they don’t do it the right way.

Attorney General Barr has threatened not to show up at the hearing after Nadler proposed that Judiciary Committee staff question him.

CNN reports that Nadler is moving forward with his plan and has scheduled a committee vote today to allow an extra hour at tomorrow’s hearing for “members or staff” to question Barr during that extra hour.

“There is no middle ground,” Nadler said. “It’s none of the business of a witness to try to dictate try to a congressional committee what our procedures for questioning him are.”

REPORT: Cohen Met With Schiff’s Staff Numerous Times Before Hearing

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen told investigators that House Intelligence Committee staffers for Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) traveled to New York to meet with him multiple times “immediately before” last month’s hearing on Capitol Hill, according to a Fox News report.

Two sources told Fox News that Cohen said the staffers traveled to New York at least four times and met with him for over 10 hours.

Fox News writes, “The sources said the sessions covered a slew of topics addressed during the public hearing before the oversight committee — including the National Enquirer’s “Catch and Kill” policy, American Media CEO David Pecker and the alleged undervaluing of President Trump’s assets.”

Republicans, however, are not convinced of the news and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) sent a letter to Cohen’s attorneys demanding answers.

Turner asked if Cohen made contact “with Democratic Members or Democratic staff of SSCI [Senate Select Committee on Intelligence], COR [House Committee on Oversight and Reform], or HPSCI [House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence] prior to his appearances before House and Senate committees last week…” He also asked for specifics, such as the duration of the contacts, where the discussions took place and exactly who was involved.

“These questions are important for the public to understand whether or not they were watching witness testimony, a public hearing, or well-rehearsed theater,” he wrote.

During last month’s hearing, Cohen admitted speaking with Congressman Schiff himself prior to the hearing.

“I spoke to Mr. Schiff about topics that were going to be raised at the upcoming hearing,” Cohen told Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

“Whoa,” Jordan responded. “Not just what time you’re going to show up, but what you’re going to talk about? Whoa.”

Cohen Referred to DOJ for Perjury After Congressional Testimony

Republican Congressmen have referred former Trump attorney and convicted liar Michael Cohen to the Department of Justice for alleged perjury, Fox News reports.

House Oversight Committee ranking member Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr claiming Cohen committed perjury during yesterday’s hearing on Capitol Hill.

The lawmakers cite numerous instances where Cohen issued false statements throughout his congressional testimony, including when the disgraced former attorney said he “never defrauded any bank” and never wanted to work at the White House.

“We write to refer significant evidence that Michael D. Cohen committed perjury and knowingly made false statements during his testimony before an Oversight and Reform Committee hearing,” they wrote. “While testifying under oath, Mr. Cohen made what appear to be numerous willfully and intentionally false statements of material fact contradicted by the record established by the Justice Department in United States v. Cohen.”

They added: “Mr. Cohen’s testimony before the Committee at times was in direct contradiction to assertions contained in pleadings authored by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY.) There are other instances in which Mr. Cohen’s statements to the Committee were immediately contradicted by witnesses with firsthand knowledge of the subject matter.”

CNN Admits: Cohen Not Telling the Truth in Congressional Testimony

A CNN panel said former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen (who has been convicted of lying to Congress) lied during his Congressional testimony today when he said he did not want to work at the White House.

In a fiery exchange between Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Cohen, the Congressman asked, “How long did you work in the White House?”

“I never worked in the White House,” Cohen responded.

“That’s the point, isn’t it, Mr. Cohen? … You wanted to work in the White House, but you didn’t get brought to the dance,” Jordan said, to which Cohen repeatedly denied the claim.

The disgraced former lawyer said, “I did not want to go to the White House. I was offered jobs. I can tell you a story of Mr. Trump reaming out Reince Priebus because I had not taken a job where Mr. Trump wanted me to, which was working with Don McGahn at the White House general counsel.”

The Washington Free Beacon pointed out that CNN Host Jake Tapper took issue with Cohen’s statement and said “I think the issue there is that one sentence: ‘I did not want to go to the White House.’ All of our reporting suggests that’s not true.”

CNN correspondent Dana Bash also said during the segment, “Our reporting, I know, Pam, you have been told and I have been told, all of us, by people in and around the process real time, he very much wanted a job in the White House.”

Bash also said she called Priebus immediately after Cohen mentioned the former Chief of Staff’s name during his testimony.

“I spoke to him, and his comment was no comment. He said I’m not getting involved in this and we, of course, witnessed this real time that this president probably more than any other, if he wants somebody in the White House, they’re there,” she said.

Bash continued, “You know, Reince Priebus and John Kelly probably didn’t want Omarosa to be working in the White House and other people, but they were there because the president wanted it to be so. So if Michael Cohen and the president really wanted it to happen, more importantly the president, it would have happened and he wanted it.”

Both of President Trump’s sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. spoke out about Cohen’s comments.

Trump Jr. wrote on Twitter, “I bet there dozens of people that would swear under oath that this is a lie. Including me. Michael Cohen Claims He Did Not Want White House Job.”

Eric Trump wrote, “Michael was lobbying EVERYONE to be ‘Chief of Staff.’ It was the biggest joke in the campaign and around the office. Did he just perjure himself again?”

Trump Slams Cohen as Former Attorney Prepares to Testify Before Congress

President Trump slammed his former attorney Michael Cohen in an early morning tweet, accusing the lawyer of lying in order to “reduce his prison time.”

Trump wrote, “Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately). He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!”

Cohen has already arrived on Capitol Hill and will be testifying in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee at 10:00 a.m.

In his prepared remarks, Cohen will say that he does not have direct evidence that President Trump colluded with Russia.

“Questions have been raised about whether I know of direct evidence that Mr. Trump or his campaign colluded with Russia. I do not. I want to be clear. But, I have my suspicions,” he writes.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), the top Republican on the Oversight committee dismissed Cohen’s upcoming testimony last night, telling Fox News that Cohen was convicted for lying to Congress.

“The Democrats first announced witness of the 116th Congress is a guy who is going to prison in two months for lying to Congress,” he said.  “They are giving a forum to a guy who lied to banks, lied to the IRS, lied to all kinds of folks. But tomorrow he will given center stage to spread more lies about the Commander-in -Chief of our country, again…”

Rep Jordan: “Three Key Facts” From Ohr’s Testimony that Disprove Schiff Memo

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) of of the House Oversight Committee joined Fox New’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday and discussed the “three key facts” from DOJ official Bruce Ohr’s testimony to Congress that “disprove” Rep. Adam Schiff’s memo.

“Adam Schiff did his memo one year ago,” he reminded Bartiromo.  “And remember his memo was to try to undermine what Devin Nunes and his memo had to say. In Schiff’s memo…he says the Republicans ‘mischaracterize’ the influence of Bruce Ohr on the whole process and talk about a misleading timeline relative to Mr. Ohr,” the Congressman said.

Jordan stated the “three key facts” Ohr shared in his August 28, 2018 Congressional deposition that contradict Schiff’s memo were:

  1. “He said first of all Fusion was connected to the Clinton Campaign, Fusion GPS that put together the dossier.”
  2. “He said my wife Nellie Ohr worked for Fusion GPS.”
  3. “And the person Fusion hired, Christopher Steele, has deep bias against the president. So much so that Christopher Steele told Bruce Ohr himself…that Christopher Steele was “desperate” to stop Trump.”

Schiff’s memo,  Jordan reminds us, specifically states that Bruce Ohr only communicated dossier-related information with the FBI after the 2016 election and after the October 21 FISA application was delivered to the FISA Court.

“That is not accurate based on Bruce Ohr’s testimony to us in his deposition,” Jordan said.

“The most important fact, Maria, is that he communicated those key pieces of information to the FBI and DOJ prior to the election, more importantly prior to when the FBI and Department of Justice went to the FISA court to get the warrant to spy on Trump’s campaign. That is huge.”

Former Top FBI Official Revealed as Subject of Criminal Leak Investigation

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker has been under investigation for leaking to the media, according to a letter from House Republicans.

The letter, from Congressmen Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) asks U.S. Attorney John Durham for an update on his investigation into Baker’s media leaks.

It was revealed that the former top attorney at the FBI was under investigation for leaking to the media during a fall congressional interview, where Baker’s attorney, Daniel Levin told lawmakers, “You may or may not know, [Baker has] been the subject of a leak investigation … a criminal leak investigation that’s still active at the Justice Department.” Levin’s statement was included in the letter from Meadows and Jordan.

The Congressmen write to Durham, “As we continue our oversight and investigative work, we felt it prudent to write to you seeking an update. Without being apprised of the contours of your leak investigation and Baker’s role, we run the risk of inadvertently interfering with your prosecutorial plans.”

Fox News Reports:

The transcript of the closed-door interview and the letter do not include details explaining why the investigation is being led out of the Connecticut office. The status of the investigation is not publicly known. But the disclosure marks the latest confirmation of a leak investigation involving FBI figures who have since left the bureau.

Baker’s congressional testimony made headlines last fall when it was revealed that he believed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was “serious” when telling colleagues he wanted to secretly record President Trump.

While Baker himself was not in the room with Rosenstein when he made the comments, two of his associates were: FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and FBI lawyer, Lisa Page. Both McCabe and Page allegedly took Rosenstein seriously and conveyed that to Baker.
