New Transcripts: Lynch Claims Comey Mischaracterized Key Clinton Probe Discussion

Newly released transcripts reveal that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch accused disgraced former FBI Director James Comey of mischaracterizing her comments during a key discussion about the Clinton email investigation.

Fox News reports that the December 2018 transcripts–released yesterday by ranking House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) show that Lynch was “quite surprised” by Comey’s repeated claims that she instructed him to call the Clinton email probe a “matter” instead of an investigation.

When asked if she ever asked Comey to call the investigation a matter, Lynch replied, “I did not.”

“I have never instructed a witness as to what to say specifically. Never have, never will,” she continued.

“In the meeting that I had with the Director, we were discussing how best to keep Congress informed of progress and discuss requesting resources for the Department overall. We were going to testify separately. And the concern that both of us had in the meeting that I was having with him in September of 2015 was how to have that discussion without stepping across the Department policy of confirming or denying an investigation, separate policy from testifying.”

She added, “Obviously, we wanted to testify fully, fulsomely, and provide the information that was needed, but we were not at that point, in September of 2015, ready to confirm that there was an investigation into the email matter — or deny it. We were sticking with policy, and that was my position on that. I didn’t direct anyone to use specific phraseology. When the Director asked me how to best to handle that, I said: What I have been saying is we have received a referral and we are working on the matter, working on the issue, or we have all the resources we need to handle the matter, handle the issue. So that was the suggestion that I made to him.”

In a June 2017 House Intelligence Committee interview, Comey said Lynch wanted him to downplay the email probe.

“The attorney general had directed me not to call it an investigation, but instead to call it a matter, which confused me and concerned me,” Comey said. “That was one of the bricks in the load that led me to conclude, ‘I have to step away from the department if we’re to close this case credibly.’”

Lynch said in the December 2018 interview, “I was quite surprised that he characterized it in that way. We did have a conversation about it, so I wasn’t surprised that he remembered that we met about it and talked about it. But I was quite surprised that that was his characterization of it, because that was not how it was conveyed to him, certainly not how it was intended.”

Sen. Paul Introduces Amendment to Reveal Obama’s Role in Trump Witch Hunt

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced an amendment yesterday that would reveal the extent of President Obama’s role in the investigation into the Trump campaign and the use of the discredited Steele dossier.

The Epoch Times reports:

Paul’s amendment would modify a resolution, which calls on the attorney general to release the full report by special counsel Robert Mueller to Congress and the public. The resolution passed the House by a vote of 420-0 on March 14 and is now before the Senate.

“What we need to discover, and we do not yet know, was President Obama involved? Was this done for partisan purposes? Was this done to try to elect Hillary Clinton?” Paul asked on the Senate floor.

The amendment calls for former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to testify before Congress under oath.

“We need to know why they decided that the fake Russian dossier was real,” Paul said on the Senate floor. “The country had concluded it wasn’t. No media outlet would produce the Russian dossier because it was so unverifiable and yet the FBI head, the CIA head kept sending the dossier out to people having it come back to them again and say ‘oh my goodness look what this senator gave us.’ It was what they already had!”

The amendment also calls for the release of any communications from President Obama about the investigation into the Trump campaign and for the release of any communications about the decision not to indict Hillary Clinton.

Aside from President Obama’s communications, the amendment also seeks the release of communications from Former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Susan Rice, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok, former FBI attorney Lisa Page, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and former senior DOJ official Bruce Ohr.

In this episode I address the real scandal the FBI is covering up in the Hillary email scandal and the astonishing comments by Jim Comey this week regarding the infamous meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton. I also address what really happened in the Mike Flynn hearing yesterday. Finally, I address the immigration crisis and the only path forward to save the GOP.

News Picks:

Comey Vows to “Resist” GOP Subpoena

Former FBI Director James Comey announced he would “resist” the Republican subpoena for him to appear in a closed-door hearing, claiming they would “selectively leak” and “distort” his testimony.

Taking to Twitter on Thanksgiving Day, Comey wrote, “Happy Thanksgiving. Got a subpoena from House Republicans. I’m still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions. But I will resist a “closed door” thing because I’ve seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion. Let’s have a hearing and invite everyone to see.”

Last week, Comey Tweeted his desire for a public hearing, writing “Truth is best served by transparency.”

Conservatives like the Washington Examiner’s Byron York were quick to point out the hypocrisy of Comey’s complaint about “selective leaking” given his deliberate leak to the media of his private meetings with President Trump.

Earlier this week, Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) slammed Comey for calling for a public hearing, claiming it would enable the former FBI Director to hide behind the excuse of not being able to answer the questions in a public setting.

Gowdy told Fox and Friends, “Did he interview Hillary Clinton in public? Did he interview George Papadopoulos in public? Did he interview Michael Flynn in public? Did he interview Huma Abedin…Cheryl Mills? Has the FBI ever conducted an interview in public and has the FBI ever conducted an interview where you are limited to five minutes, which is what happens in Congressional hearings.”

“The last time I saw Jim Comey in a public Congressional hearing, almost 100 times he said ‘I can’t answer in this setting,’ he continued. So why in the world would he want to go back to a setting where he knows he can’t answer all the questions? I’m sure he only wants me to have five minutes. I’m sure of that,” he said.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) is planning to have Comey testify on November 29, and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch on December 5.

Goodlatte plans to question the two on matters relating to their “decision making” during the 2016 presidential race.

GOP members of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees are “eager” to question Comey on his controversial decision to not recommend a criminal indictment against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State.

They also wish to ask Comey about the memos he kept of his meetings and conversations with President Trump.
