Art of the Deal: Trump Walks Away from North Korean Nuclear Negotiations

President Trump walked away from nuclear negotiations with North Korea today saying he would not give into Kim Jong Un’s demands to lift sanctions on the country prior to securing denuclearizaiton.

During a press conference after his meeting, the President said, “It was a very productive two days, but sometimes you have to walk and this was one of those times.”

Trump told reporters, “It was about the sanctions. Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that. They were willing to denuke a large portion of the areas that we wanted, but we couldn’t give up all of the sanctions for that.”

“I’d much rather do it right than do it fast,” he added. “…We’re in position to do something very special.”

Fox News reports:

Trump specifically said negotiations fell through after the North demanded a full removal of U.S.-led international sanctions in exchange for the shuttering of the North’s Yongbyon nuclear facility. Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters that the United States wasn’t willing to make a deal without the North committing to giving up its secretive nuclear facilities outside Yongbyon, as well as its missile and warheads program.

ISIS Bride’s Father Sues Trump for Blocking Her Return to U.S.

The father of a woman who fled the U.S. to join ISIS in Syria is suing the Trump Administration for banning her return to the United States.

Ahmed Ali Muthana filed a lawsuit in Washington D.C. claiming the United States made an “unlawful attempt” to prevent his daughter–whom he says is a U.S. citizen–from entering the country.

However, as Politico points out, “the Trump administration says her status as the daughter of a Yemeni diplomat means she is not a naturalized citizen and thus not entitled to the Constitutional rights of an American citizen.”

On Wednesday, President Trump tweeted, “I have instructed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and he fully agrees, not to allow Hoda Muthana back into the Country!”

Muthana, 24, fled Alabama for Syria in 2014 at the age of 19 and is currently at a refugee camp in northeast Syria. She married three ISIS fighters during her time in the Middle East and has an 18-month-old son from one of her marriages.

Muthana told The Guardian in a recent interview that she wanted to return to the United States.

When asked if she had a message for the U.S., she said, “I would tell them please forgive me for being so ignorant, and I was really young and ignorant and I was 19 when I decided to leave.”

“I believe that America gives second chances. I want to return and I’ll never come back to the Middle East. America can take my passport and I wouldn’t mind,” she added.

According to The Guardian, in 2015, Muthana used Twitter to urge Americans to commit acts of violence on nation holidays like Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day and to “spill all of their blood.”

“Americans wake up! Men and women altogether. You have much to do while you live under our greatest enemy, enough of your sleeping! Go on drivebys, and spill all of their blood, or rent a big truck and drive all over them. Veterans, Patriots, Memorial, etc day … Kill them,”

Earlier this week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Muthana would not be allowed to return to the U.S. despite her pleas.

“Ms. Hoda Muthana is not a U.S. citizen and will not be admitted into the United States,” he said in a statement. She does not have any legal basis, no valid U.S. passport, no right to a passport, nor any visa to travel to the United States.  We continue to strongly advise all U.S. citizens not to travel to Syria.”

Trump Plans Second North Korean Summit with Kim Jong Un in February

The White House has announced that President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet again in February for nuclear talks.

In a statement today, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, “President Donald J. Trump met with Kim Yong Chol for an hour and half, to discuss denuclearization and a second summit, which will take place near the end of February. The President looks forward to meeting with Chairman Kim at a place to be announced at a later date.”

It’s reported that Chol brought Trump a letter from Kim Jong Un. Prior to their meeting, Sanders said the two would “discuss relations between the two countries and continued progress on North Korea’s final, fully verified denuclearization.”

Trump’s meeting with Chol occurred after the North Korean envoy met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. special envoy for North Korea, Stephen Biegun in downtown D.C.

Pompeo Rebukes Obama Foreign Policy in Cairo Speech: “Age of Self-Inflicted American Shame is Over”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a scathing rebuke of President Obama’s foreign policy today–in the same Middle Eastern city where the former president launched his “apology tour.”

In 2009, President Obama gave his speech titled “A New Beginning” at Cairo University, where he apologized for the United States and said the “fear and anger” Americans felt from 9/11 “led us to act contrary to our ideals.”

Speaking at American University in Cairo, Pompeo said (without mentioning Obama by name), “It was here, in this city, another American stood before you. He told you that radical Islamist terrorism does not stem from an ideology.”

“He told you that 9/11 led my country to abandon its ideals, particularly in the Middle East,” he continued. “He told you that the United States and the Muslim world needed ‘a new beginning.’ The results of these misjudgments have been dire. In falsely seeing ourselves as a force for what ails the Middle East, we were timid in asserting ourselves when the times – and our partners – demanded it.”

Pompeo went on to say that under Obama’s leadership, the United States “grossly underestimated the tenacity and viciousness of radical Islamism, a debauched strain of the faith that seeks to upend every other form of worship or governance. ISIS drove to the outskirts of Baghdad as America hesitated. They raped and pillaged and murdered tens of thousands of innocents. They birthed a caliphate across Syria and Iraq and launched terror attacks that killed all across continents.”

The Secretary of State also criticized Obama’s Iran deal, and said that President Trump reversed the nation’s “willful blindness to the danger of the [Iranian] regime.”

“The U.S. re-imposed sanctions that should never have been lifted. We embarked on a new pressure campaign to cut off the revenues the regime uses to spread terror and destruction throughout the world. We joined the Iranian people in calling for freedom and accountability,” he said.

Taking another swipe at President Obama’s foreign policy approach, Pomepo said, “The good news is this: The age of self-inflicted American shame is over, and so are the policies that produced so much needless suffering. Now comes the real ‘new beginning,’”
