Ted Cruz Explains Why Democrats Support D.C. Statehood
The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, on Friday, passed a bill that would make Washington, D.C. into a state. Only one Democrat opposed the bill, which will obviously go nowhere in the Republican-controlled Senate.
After the House vote, Republican Senator Ted Cruz explained why the House Democrats did this. According to theBlaze, Cruz said that Democrats only support D.C. statehood because it would easily give them two additional senators from the city (or would-be-state) that voted 91% for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
That being said, D.C. statehood cannot be granted merely by statute, as it requires a constitutional amendment, so the vote is all about Leftist politics, Cruz explained.
The House bill fails bc DC statehood requires a constl amendment.
Just politics: every Dem supports bc you want 2 more Dem senators.
Am curious, would you still support if VA had to give Arlington back to DC? W/o northern VA, Virginia would likely return to 2 GOP senators…. https://t.co/bapao1NVKo

There is no chance on earth that anyone in the Democrat party would be talking about D.C. statehood if it were a Republican city. The Left doesn’t care about D.C.’s citizens having a voice in Congress, because power is the Left’s only principle.
