Trump Approval Rating Reaches New High

With the midterm elections just around the corner, President Trump’s approval ratings reached a new high. A new poll from NBC News and The Wall Street Journal found that 47 percent of respondents approve of the job President Trump is doing.

A 47 percent approval rating is Trump’s all-time high since being elected President.  The same poll had Trump at 39 percent approval only six months ago.

Democrats still retain an overall lead in likely voters this election season, however, the story is different in highly contested districts.  The Democrats advantage in these competitive districts has dwindled to more of an even race according to the Wall Street Journal. Interestingly, one-third of Independent voters are undecided with a 41 percent to 27 percent of the remainder in favor of the Democrats.

The enthusiasm of likely voters has dramatically increased on both sides with seventy-two percent of Democrats and 68 percent of Republicans saying they have “high interest” in the election. According to The Wall Street Journal, the dramatic rise in Republican interest to the highly controversial confirmation battle of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff told NBC News that the battle over the house is a “barnburner” and it will come down to the final push for high voter turnout and persuading the independent vote.
