As Russian President Vladimir Putin moves troops into Ukraine’s two breakaway regions, the only U.S. President in the past decade who saw no Russian encroachments on Ukraine’s territory under his watch is speaking out.
In a statement released earlier today, Donald Trump wrote “If properly handled, there was absolutely no reason that the situation currently happening in Ukraine should have happened at all. I know Vladimir Putin very well, and he would have never done during the Trump Administration what he is doing now, no way! Russia has become very very rich during the Biden Administration, with oil prices doubling and soon to be tripling and quadrupling. The weak sanctions are insignificant relative to taking over a country and a massive piece of strategically located land. Now it has begun, oil prices are going higher and higher, and Putin is not only getting what he always wanted, but getting, because of the oil and gas surge, richer and richer. The U.S. was energy independent under the Trump Administration, an independence that we had never obtained before, and oil prices would have remained low. Now, what a mess our Country is in!”
And of course, the strongest evidence that this would’ve never happened under Trump’s watch…. is that this never happened under Trump’s watch.
The left’s flip-flop on Russia over the past decade has been a sight to behold. As recently as the 2012 election then-President Barack Obama mocked Mitt Romney for deeming Russia America’s #1 geopolitical foe, quipping that “the 80s called, and they want their foreign policy back.”
The zinger was quoted incessantly in the media, only for the same media and ruling class to then push a hysterical conspiracy theory that Russia had infiltrated the White House in the Trump-era. The narrative that Trump is or was beholden to Putin miraculously exists alongside the objective reality that Russia made no territorial encroachments under Trump after annexing Crimea under Obama and is now invading Ukraine’s separatist “Republics.”
