Fox News host Tucker Carlson took aim at Democrat lawmakers who fled the state of Texas in an attempt to kill the state’s proposed election security laws.
From The Post Millennial:
“They committed what amounted to an act of insurrection,” Tucker added as he compared the hypocrisy of the democratic legislators to the “stop the steal” rally in DC on Jan. 6.
“51 Democrats in the state legislature in Texas left Texas and flew to Washington DC on private jets,” Carlson said.
“They did this in order to deny the Texas legislature a quorum, and then they shut it down. They shut down the democratic process in their state by leaving Texas. They, in other words, violated their sworn duty to represent their voters.”
Carlson added that the bill Democrats are opposing is in no way “radical” or “controversial” before accusing the lawmakers of hypocritically stalling the democratic process:
“Now, preventing lawmakers from making laws, shutting down the vote, would not seem like a defense of democracy. In fact, it would appear to be just the opposite. It would appear to be an assault on the very core of democracy,” Tucker Carlson said, pointing out the hypocrisy of the democratic lawmakers.
“But according to Joe Biden, this time it’s necessary. Sometimes you’ve got to end democracy in order to save democracy,” Tucker exclaimed while referring to the President’s proposed laws on voter rights called For The People Act.
Carlson then took aim at President Joe Biden, accusing Biden of using over-the-top rhetoric in a speech comparing election security laws to the Jim Crow era:
Tucker Carlson went on to mock President Biden’s statement where he said that requiring people to prove their identity when they cast their vote is “an unrelenting 21st century Jim Crow assault.” In the case of the Texas law, those casting absentee or mail-in ballots merely need to put their drivers license number or the last four digits of their social security number on the ballot.
The segment comes as a group of Democratic Texas lawmakers fled the state for the nation’s capital, denying the legislature the numbers needed to conduct business and pass the election security bill.
“We are determined to kill this bill,” said Democratic state Rep. Chris Turner.
