Twitter Is Fact Checking the White House for the First Time Ever Since Elon Musk Takeover

Just days after Elon Musk closed his Twitter takeover, evidence of change is already everywhere.

While big tech censors have rallied behind "combating disinformation" as a Trojan Horse to simply censor information damaging to the political left on their platforms, for the first time ever, fact checks are being applied to left-wing propaganda.

These fact checks aren't being written by anyone employed by Twitter, but rather being submitted through the site's "Birdwatch" feature, which went live in January 2021. Birdwatch allows users to submit "context" to potentially misleading or false posts, however, it seems that the prior team at Twitter wasn't allowing any of these to be applied to leftist misinformation, because they never appeared on the Biden administration's false posts. Among those Musk fired after taking over included Twitter's content moderation chief, and he locked out some of the website's censors from internal tools for content moderation.

If one thing is obvious going forward, it's that Democrats are going to finally have to get used to playing on an even playing field, even if it's just on one platform.

When the White House boasted yesterday that Social Security would be seeing its largest increase in 10 years, and credited Biden for that, a fact check was attached to the tweet pointing out that the record increase is because benefits are linked to inflation, and have been since 1972.

When Biden boasted of manufacturing job gains "on my watch," a note was attached pointing out that he was conflating "regaining lost jobs with creation of new jobs that never existed before."

When Biden pointed to 55 corporations that he said made a combined $40 billion and paid no federal income taxes, and claimed that his "Inflation Reduction Act" would end this, a note was attached explaining that his legislation would only lead to 14 of those 55 companies paying more in taxes.

And after Biden tried to claim credit for capping insulin prices at $35 a month, a note was attached pointing out that this is only for people on Medicare, and wouldn't even apply to seniors on private insurance.
