Ukraine’s Zelensky Asks for No Fly Zone While Speaking to U.S. Congress

Speaking before U.S. Congress this morning, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for a no fly zone that risks sparking World War III in addition for requests for Joe Biden to authorize greater sanctions on Russia.

With the American ambassador to Ukraine translating, Zelensky vowed to fight until the end, adding “Right now, the destiny of our country is being decided.” He appealed to Americans’ love for and dedication to freedom in his speech, and invoked the bombing of Pearl Harbor and 9/11, which he likened to what his people are enduring daily.

Then he made the ask: “We are asking for a reply, for an answer, to this terror from the whole world. Is this a lot to ask? To create a no fly zone over Ukraine to save people? Is this too much to ask?” Zelensky also said he’d take more armaments and airplanes.

Watch below:

The case against a NATO-imposed no fly zone over Ukraine is quite simply that it would necessarily require shooting down Russian planes, which would obviously lead to further escalation between Russia and all NATO countries, risking a world war. A no fly zone would also come as Russia hasn’t been relying heavily on air power.

Thus far, Estonia is the only other European country to call for a no fly zone. In U.S. Congress, Lindsey Graham said he’d be open to a no fly zone if Russia uses chemical weapons.

Amazingly, at least one member of Congress doesn’t seem unaware of the actual implications of a no fly zone. Just days ago pro-amnesty “Republican” Representative Maria Salazar said that while she supports a no fly zone, “I do not know what it will mean.”

Let’s hope she’s the only one.
