Video: China Blames U.S. for Hong Kong Protests as Standoff Continues
A standoff continues in Hong Kong between protestors fighting for freedom under fear of becoming part of China’s communist state. Although flights have resumed after two days of protests at the Hong Kong airport, China is sending in troops and today U.S. officials warned that China “could be preparing for a Tiananmen Square-style crackdown.”
Chinese officials condemned the pro-democracy activists and called the disruption “near-terrorist acts” The Guardian reported. “The sixth consecutive day of demonstrations at the airport came as Beijing stepped up its war of words against the protesters” and last night “protestors battled with riot police armed with pepper spray and batons outside the terminal” and one officer “drew his pistol aiming it at protestors, who quickly fled.”
Earlier this week, videos emerged of protestors waving the American flag and singing the national anthem. Yesterday Texas Congressman and former Navy SEAL posted the moving video on instagram with the caption:
Hong Kong is a modern-day struggle between tyrannical rule and free democracy. Protesters stand bravely in the face of violence to combat China’s authoritarian regime. They remind us why we value our freedom in America, and should stand by their side as they fight for theirs.
