A self-described teacher was caught on camera using racist language to attack a Hispanic Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.
From The Post Millennial:
As the officer in the video approaches the vehicle, the driver while holding her cell phone said, “I started to record because you’re a murderer.”
The officer maintains his calm throughout the engagement and told the woman that she cannot be using her cell phone while driving. After asking for her license the woman angrily responds “It’s at my apartment, and I am perfectly legal and I am a teacher.”
In an interview with Fox News’ Bill Melugin, the 14-year police veteran said he decided to record incident on his body camera to “protect himself from false allegations.”
The drivers behavior shows that the officer may have made the right decision:
The driver continues to berate the officer throughout the video and even accuses the officer of being jealous of her car. Towards the end of the footage the driver begins calling the officer a “Mexican racist.”
The driver added, “You are always going to be a Mexican. You will never be white. You know that, right?”
The woman would eventually contact the police department’s internal affairs and file a harassment complaint against the officer, which Meligun reported was not the first she had levied such accusations against a police officer.
Tensions between law enforcement and some citizens have flared in recent months as departments across the country face repeated accusations of racism and brutality in policing. Organizations such as Black Lives Matter have called for the nation’s police departments to be completely defunded, while others have called on departments tactics to be reformed. That has been accompanied by a surge in violence nationally.
