Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to answer how it is that the Biden administration is so unpopular, seeming to blame it on people not knowing any better.
CBSā Bill Whitaker asked Harris about āA recent CBS poll [that] found at the beginning of President Bidenās term, 70% of young people, people under 30, said he was doing a good job. Now itās less than 50%, why is that? Whatās going on?ā
Harris replied, āIf you poll how young people feel about the climate and the warming of our planet, it polls as one of their top concerns. When we talk about what we are doing with student loan debt, polls very high. The challenge that we have as an administration is we gotta let people know who brung it to āem. *nervous laughter* Thatās our challenge.ā
Or put more accurately - the challenge the Biden administration has is to find a way to implement their desired policies in a way thatās actually constitutional - as they were unable to do with their vote-buying āstudent debt cancellationā scheme. Even when trying to advertise a success, Harris names one of the administrationās failures.
Considering the Biden administration has nearly the entirety of the mainstream media on their side, getting the word on their supposed good deeds should be the last of their worries.
When asked why a Biden-Harris ticket isnāt 30-points ahead of Donald Trump in the polls, Harris replied āIām not a political pundit, so Iām not gonna speak to that. But what I will say is this: when the American people are able to take a close look at election time on their options, I think the choice is gonna be clear. Weāre gonna win. And Iām not saying itās gonna be easy, but we will win. I have no doubt.
Harris is the least popular VP in recorded history by far, with one recent poll from June finding her approval at a net -17. That compared to Mike Penceās net approval of -4 at that point in his vice presidency, +1 for Biden, +23 for Dick Cheney, and +15 for Al Gore. While his approval did turn net negative after the 2006 āDick Cheney hunting incident,ā itās still the case that Cheney was more popular after accidentally shooting someone than Harris is today.
