In an interview with CBN News, Vice President Mike Pence called Chief Justice John Roberts a “disappointment to conservatives.”
Pence told host David Brody that, “[W]e have great respect for the institution of the Supreme Court of the United States but Chief Justice Roberts has been a disappointment to conservatives. I think several cases out of the Supreme Court are reminders of just how important this election is for the future of the Supreme Court.”
As examples, Pence brought up Roberts’ apparent rewriting of Obamacare in order to uphold its constitutionality in 2012, his recent decision to uphold Nevada’s COVID limits on church gatherings while exempting casinos, and his striking down of Louisiana’s abortion clinic laws.
Pence specifically called the Louisiana case a “wake-up call,” telling Brody that it was “…a very modest restriction on abortion providers. But a narrow majority in the Supreme Court still said it was unacceptable. I think it’s been a wake-up call for pro-life voters around the country who understand, in a very real sense, the destiny of the Supreme Court is on the ballot in 2020.”
The Vice President raises a great point, and the issue of the Supreme Court will inevitably be on the ballot this time around, just like it was in 2016 after the tragic passing of Justice Antonin Scalia. As such, we must turn out, give President Trump another four year term and make sure the Senate stays in Republican hands.
