Last week, thousands of Michigan residents descended on the state capitol to protest Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s authoritarian, excessive lockdown of the state. The fallout from Whitmer’s decisions and her attitude about it has gone so far to bleed support even from her own party, but apparently, “she persisted.”
Now, Whitmer is going as far as to say she’ll extend the lockdown, presumably to punish her traitorous subjects for defying her dictatorial orders.
As reported by the Daily Wire, Whitmer claims that the protests were actually intended as a political rally, and due to “irresponsible behavior,” the lockdown may be extended past May 1, the present end date.
The Washington Examiner further explains:
Whitmer called the protest in the state’s capital “irresponsible” during a Thursday night interview with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.
“We might have to actually think about extending stay-at-home orders, which is supposedly what they were protesting,” Whitmer said.
“When you see a, you know, a political rally — that’s what it was yesterday — a political rally like that, where people aren’t wearing masks, and they’re in close quarters, and they’re touching one another, you know that that’s precisely what makes this kind of a disease drag out and expose more people,” Whitmer said.

Whitmer further defended her decisions further on Sunday:
“Michigan right now has the third-highest death count in the country; we are the 10th largest state, as you can deduce this means we have a uniquely hard issue going on here,” Whitmer said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “It is disproportionately hurting our state and that is why we need to take a uniquely aggressive action to protect people.”
She added: “We are seeing the curve start to flatten. And that means we’re saving lives.”
“[W]e’ve got to be really smart about the actions we take now to protect life as well as the actions we take to reengage [the economy]” and that she doesn’t want to cause a second wave of infections by reopening the state too early.
And I know that the vast majority of Michiganers understand that not going to the gas station to fill up your boat … is a sacrifice but it’s one that is worth it,” she said. “Because who among us wouldn’t rather forgo jet-skiing or boating right now if it’s going to save your grandparent or your neighbor’s life, and that’s precisely what the tradeoff is in this moment.”
Apparently, Whitmer claims to know what Michiganers believe, unless they disagree with her. Then they’re just holding political rallies and deserve punishment. For their own good, of course.
Ironically, this will all probably just encourage more protests.
