Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has finally found an explanation for why her gun-controlled city is ravaged with gun violence – it’s those damned Republicans! It’s not because Lightfoot believes that her city is “MAGA country,” but because Chicago’s strict gun control laws can’t work when neighboring areas lack similar strict laws (which you’d think would be an argument against local gun control).
In response to a tweet from Ted Cruz lambasting Chicago’s gun control, Lightfoot fired back that “60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation.”

In response, I pointed out the obvious; that if Chicago is only violent because neighboring areas have declared anarchy on gun laws, why don’t those anarchistic areas have the same levels of violence as Chicago? Perhaps non-criminals being able to shoot back is a factor.

The correlation between gun ownership and gun violence isn’t what Lightfoot thinks either, as is evident from a state by state level analysis of gun violence.
As we already know – it’s who owns the guns that matters. Dana Loesch echoed that point in response to Lightfoot, noting that it’s not a lack of gun laws responsible for fueling Chicago’s violence, but rather a lack of enforcement of existing laws on the books when it comes to crime in general. As she quotes from Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson “It’s a small sub-section of the population in Chicago that’s driving this gun violence. 1,400 individuals, who are repeat gun offenders, just imagine if we took 50 percent of them off the street where our gun violence would go in the city of Chicago.”
Those repeat offenders are already prohibited possessors — meaning it doesn’t matter where or which black market they obtain their weapons from, it’s all still illegal, @LightfootForChi . So what “common sense” legislation will improve your justice system, Mayor?

The reason Mayor @LightfootForChi was so rude responding to @SenTedCruz is because acknowledging Chicago's widely reported problem with repeat offenders and light sentencing lays bare that this is a a problem with her and her party’s leadership — NOT law abiding gun owners.
