Joe Biden’s gun control agenda will not be coming to Arizona.
The White House has made it clear that gun control is a top priority for them, with the most significant gun control measure that Biden is pushing for being a restoration of the assault weapons ban. “I got that done as a senator. It brought down mass shootings, we can do it again,” Biden said during remarks at the White House. “We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again.”
The House already passed two bills last month that strengthen gun control laws. One gives authorities ten business days instead of three to complete a background check, and the other expands background check requirements to guns bought over the internet, at gun shows, or through private transactions.
Biden’s gun control plans are already being met with fierce resistance among many states.
Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, and Wyoming have passing measures banning the use of local resources from enforcing any federal law or executive rule that could second amendment rights.
Texas’ Gov. Greg Abbott recently endorsing a bill that would transform his state into a “Second Amendment Sanctuary State.”
And Arizona is the latest to join the club in enacting such measures.
According to Breitbart:
Republican Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona signed a bill that would ban local governments and employees from enforcing or aiding any infringement on gun rights imposed by the federal government.
House Bill 2111 was passed by the Arizona House and Senate in an attempt to preempt any new regulation of guns by the Biden administration.
“The state of Arizona and its political subdivisions are prohibited from utilizing any financial resources or state personnel to administer, cooperate with or enforce any law, act, order, rule, treaty or regulation of the federal government that is inconsistent with any law of this state regarding the regulation of firearms,” read the text of the legislation.
The looming threat of gun control is helping fuel gun sales to record highs. The new year kicked off with 2 million firearms sold in January, a 75% increase over January of last year. Gun background checks (a proxy for overall sales) surged in March to over 4.6 million, and all-time high. The previous record was set in March of last year, at just over 4.3 million.
