Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was too crazy even for the overwhelmingly liberal voters of the city.

Last night she faced off against eight rivals in the mayoral primary - and only garnered 16.4% of the vote. While no candidate broke the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff, Lightfoot didn’t make the cut. Former CEO of the Chicago Public Schools and CEO of the School District of Philadelphia placed first with nearly 34% of the vote, while Cook County Board of Commissioners member Brandon Johnson got just over 20% of the vote.

Naturally, she preemptively defended against her humiliating defeat by blaming racism (what else?)

According to the New York Post

“I’m a black woman in America. Of course,” she replied when asked by a reporter if she had been treated unfairly.

But she called being Chicago’s mayor “the honor of a lifetime.”

“Regardless of tonight’s outcome, we fought the right fights and we put this city on a better path,” Lightfoot said, as she urged her fellow mayors around the US not to fear being bold.

Amid heavy criticism for the crime wave, homelessness and other troubles plaguing the city, the mayor had also injected race into the run-up to the election.

“I am a black woman — let’s not forget,” Lightfoot, 60, told the New Yorker in a piece that ran Saturday. “Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

In Lightfoot’s world, there exists a shadowy group of racists in Chicago that was large enough to prevent her from getting re-elected - but apparently didn’t bother to mobilize to stop her from getting elected as Mayor in the first place. One also must wonder why a black man (Brandon Johnson) got the second number of votes in the primary if racism is to blame for Lightfoot’s ouster.

As we all know, it’s her incompetence to blame. While Lightfoot had no shortage of highlights, she did once assure reporters that saving lives was her number one priority - all at a time when her city was the nation’s murder capital
