Joe Biden appeared to either save himself from a gaffe or lose his train of thought at an event held the day before Saint Patrick’s Day.

House Speaker Mike Johnson hosted the annual “Friends of Ireland” St. Patrick's Day luncheon with Biden and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the "Friends of Ireland" on Capitol Hill. The event celebrates the relationship between the U.S. and Ireland.

Varadkar and Biden held a meeting before the luncheon where the former voiced his support for a lasting ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. At the luncheon Speaker Johnson pointed out how delusional that is, stating that there’s no way Hamas is going to respect a ceasefire. Meanwhile Biden, who hasn’t once called for a peaceful resolution or ceasefire in the Ukraine-Russia war,  pushed Speaker Johnson to support more aid to Ukraine.

At one point in his speech Biden started to talk about his Grandfather before seemingly losing his train of thought and playing it off as a joke, stating:

To all Irish Americans, Democrats and Republican members here, I’m glad to be united on this issue.  We begin the next century of a real partnership.  And it has been partnership, but it’s really increasing now. And finally, to all that wish they were Irish, I’m glad you’re here too.  (Laughter.)  My grandfather used to say that being Irish is — is enough.  (Laughs.)  At any rate, I won’t go into that.  (Laughter.)
