When asked on Wednesday if Florida Governor Ron DeSantis should take Vice President Kamala Harris's calls, President Joe Biden seemed to sidestep defending his vice president.
In recent days, Harris has criticized DeSantis for "selfishly" ignoring her calls, while DeSantis has accused her of "playing political games." Notably, Harris had not been involved in prior hurricane preparedness efforts before announcing her candidacy for president, in contrast to former Vice President Mike Pence, who actively participated during all four years of the Trump administration.

“She has no role in this,” DeSantis said. “She’s been Vice President for three and a half years, and I’ve dealt with multiple storms under this administration without her involvement. What’s selfish is her trying to insert herself into this now.”
When asked by Real Clear Politics reporter Philip Wegmann, Biden avoided directly defending Harris, saying, "All I can tell you is I’ve talked to Gov. DeSantis. He’s been very gracious, he’s thanked me for all we’ve done, and he knows what we’re doing. That’s what matters."
The perceived betrayal follows President Biden's recent praise for Vice President Harris, crediting her with shaping his administration's foreign and domestic policy during an appearance on The View. However, Harris’s campaign has been working to distance her from the failing Biden administration. Additionally, Biden put on a MAGA hat during a visit in Ohio, which has fueled rumors that he is resentful over being pushed to withdraw from the presidential race.
